Frank Mattie Pintail Drake

The Frank Mattie (Antioch, CA) “jack tail” sprig are considered by many California collectors to be among the best early California pintails made. This example has a hollow carved, with bottom board, body circa 1920s. The head was carved and painted by Ed Snyder (Rio Vista, CA) at a later date. The chest was repainted when Snyder replaced the head. See page 439 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller. Measures 18.5” in length.
