Unknown Maker Feeding White-Fronted Goose

Unique white-fronted goose by an early California maker unknown to me. The head in the feeding posture is removable. The body is hollowed through the top of the back and the carved out area is covered with sheet metal. The decoy was likely used as a field model as evidenced with the broken off dowel in the bottom. With the head attached this wonderful piece of folk art measures approximately 23” in length.
